Founded by Mark and Fiona Horrigan in 2001, Pimpernel Estate is situated at the base of the Great Dividing Range in the heart of the Yarra Valley. Damien Archibald joined the team as Head Winemaker in 2008.
From the outset we have been guided by one principle:
Extraordinary wine comes only from exceptional fruit.
With this as our underpinning philosophy, and inspired by the great wineries and traditions of Burgundy, Loire, and the Rhône Valley, we adhere to old-world viticultural and winemaking practices.
Our entire vineyard is dry grown and completely hand tended with inter-row crop farming and a keen eye to sustainability. We prune the vines hard to produce low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. We monitor every single plant, barrel and bottle almost obsessively. We hand pick, hand prune, foot stomp and make all of our wines by taste, not in a laboratory. We pride ourselves in having a meticulous eye for detail and a great passion for crafting elegant wines that truly express our unique terroir.
