Elderton Barossa Shiraz

The season leading into 2022 was mild, with enough rainfall to set our vines up for a low stress run into vintage. Very mild summer conditions, without heat spikes, allowed for gentle ripening and exceptional concentration of fruit flavours.

This wine was fermented in a combination of open concrete fermenters with a portion in closed stainless steel fermenters, which helped to hold in fragrance and vibrancy. The parcels were kept separate as they went through malolactic fermentation in barrel, before further maturation in a mix of French and American puncheons to soften and build volume around the bold tannin structure of this wine. The parcels were then carefully assessed before blending and subsequent bottling to ensure the style and quality expectations of this wine were upheld.

Aroma - Complex bouquet of spiced plums, blackberries and red fruits with nuances of oak

Palate - Lifted with vibrant red berry fruits, this wine shows the vibrancy of our Greenock vineyard with a depth of silky tannins typical of our Nuriootpa vineyard and a freshness and spice from our higher elevation Craneford vineyard.

Oak - Predominantly older American and French puncheons, 24 months

Cellaring - Drink now or cellar confidently for up to 10 years from vintage
